For three decades the ancient Augustinian monastery at San Gimignano, a few hours’ drive from Siena and Florence in Tuscany, has been an appreciated destination of Augustinian pilgrim and youth groups generally, and especially Augustinian parish and school groups and individual travellers from Australia.

A Roman church’s connection with Australia

In 2013 the Augustinians celebrated 175 years of continuous ministry in Australia. It all began through a chance meeting in Rome between a young Irish Augustinian friar and an experienced missionary priest visiting from Australia.

The town of St Thomas of Villanova

Villanova College (Coorparoo, Brisbane, Australia) has reaped the benefit of a journey to Spain by a staff member who visited the home town of St Thomas of Villanova, which is named Villanueva de los Infantes (Villanova of the young children). She returned with a collection of photographs (two of which are included on this web page) that will become a teaching resource at Villanova.

A basilica near Augustine’s church

In coastal eastern Algeria, Annaba is the modern-day city that overlooks the archaeological ruins of the town of Hippo in the valley below, where once stood the Basilica of Peace that was used by Augustine 1,600 years ago. Annaba’s Basilica of St Augustine was built in 1881. In recent years it has has needed renovation, which could only be done with government approval and assistance.

Rome meeting for all Augustinian leaders

The forty-one major superiors of the order, priors provincial and the superiors of vicariates and delegations gathered in Rome on 16 June 2014 for a five-day meeting with the Augustinian Prior General and Curia. They discussed matters relating to the program of the Order for the next six years.
